Context
The Advisory Committee on Trustworthy Systems (ACTS) is an independent, not-for-profit, UK Public Good activity for Making Systems Better.
It was formed in 2017 to continue the work of previous UK public-private initiatives on Trustworthiness of Systems (including CSKTN SSSIG, SSDP, SSDRI, and TSI), after the expiry of Government (HMG) seedcorn funding, as coordinated by what is now the National Protective Security Agency (NPSA; formerly the Centre for Protection of National Infrastructure - CPNI) from the first National Cyber Security Programme (NCSP).
Responsibilities
ACTS is responsible for:
- Acting as Curators for the Trustworthy Systems Framework (TSFr), ensuring its promulagation
under Open Government Licence (OGL), facilitating its use within Standards (in particular the BS10754 Series,
with BSI ICT/003 Committee representation within ACTS), and overseeing its evolution
- Acting as Curators for Training, Education, and Awareness (TEA) material produced by the predecessor
activities, and providing a channel for cross-sector discussion of TEA
matters
- Providing a Forum for engagement between the Trustworthy Systems community, and other related activities
Membership
ACTS is constituted from representatives from, in alphabetical order, Academia, Government, Professional Bodies, Regulators, Standards Development Organisations (SDO), and Trade Bodies.
All effort is provided on a volunteer basis.
Executive Roles
Due to the limited number of ACTS Meetings per year, the Chair and Honorary Secretary act in an Executive Capacity between meetings.
The current incumbents of these Executive Roles are:
- Chair: Professor Tim Watson (Director of the Cyber Institute at Loughborough University and
the Science and Innovation Director, Defence and National Security at The Alan Turing Institute)
- Honorary Secretary: Professor Ian Bryant (Principal Investigator, Challenges in Risk Understanding (CRU) Research Theme)
